Houston Independent School District (HISD) is the largest school district in Texas
It is the eighth-largest school district in the United States
It serves more than 189,000 students across over 273 campuses
HISD includes signature schools like, DeBakey High School for Health Professions and Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
By August 2027, all HISD schools will be A- or B-rated. That is the Houston Promise.
On August 12th no HISD student walked into an F-rated campus. 70,000 more students walked into A- and B-rated campuses than the year prior.
Over the last two years, HISD has more than doubled the number of A- and B-rated schools.
By the year 2030, HISD will implement whole scale systemic reform to significantly narrow achievement gaps and prepare all students for a Year 2035 workplace and world.
Menus are designed by registered dietitians using recipes created by HISD professional chefs.
HISD Nutrition Services employs five registered dietitians and five chefs who follow strict USDA nutrition guidelines.
Students calorie ranges are based on USDA Dietary Guidelines and the Institute of Medicine's Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI)
