If you plan on obtaining your free credit report, here are 6 things you should know.
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) entitles you to a free credit report.
All consumers can obtain a free credit report every 12 months from all three major credit reporting agencies through a centralized source that will process your request.
Your credit score is not included in the free report.
To obtain your scores, you will need to pay for them. They are typically not free.
You can order your free report by calling 877.322.8228
Order your free report online at AnnualCreditReport.com
To order your free report by mail, first obtain the form from crediteducation.org, Complete the form and mail to: Annual Credit Report Request Service | P.O. Box 05281 | Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
Please keep in mind, you can also obtain a free credit report if you have been denied credit within the last 60 days. All you need to do is call the toll free number provided in the letter you received denying you credit.
You can also send your request by mail to the credit reporting agency that the creditor used, along with a copy of the denial letter. For example, if the creditor used Trans Union, you will send your request to Trans Union. For more information, please visit FTC.gov.
