Mold is a type of fungus that is present everywhere in our natural environment. The spores, are a part of the dust found inside your home. These spores can grow in any areas that get wet or stay moist for periods of time. As a new home owner, the key to preventing mold growth is to find and stop it at the source. Here are some steps you can take to prevent mold.
Keep indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50%.
Ensure proper ventilation in all areas that are prone to moisture.
Use air conditioner or a dehumidifier during humid months.
Open windows when possible to help with ventilation.
Keep furniture a few inches from the wall to allow air movement.
Use exhaust fans for at least 20 minutes after shower or bath.
Wipe condensation from windows.
Fix any and all leaks immediately.
If mold covers more than 10 square feet inside your home, you are experiencing musty odors, recent flooding in the home, plumbing leaks, persistent coughing, skin rashes, headaches and fatigue, it’s time to call a professional for mold removal.
