What Does The Codes Listed on The Survey Mean?

Hello and welcome to Houston First Time Home Buyers Edition, formally First Home Houston (FHH). One of the documents you will receive at the closing of your new home is a survey. If it will be your first time viewing a survey up close, you may find yourself asking, what the abbreviations on the document mean.

Well, not to worry. Here are 15 codes you may find your survey and the meaning of each.

  1. CATV - cable TV

  2. EM - electric meter

  3. A a/c unit

  4. FDC - fire department connection

  5. FH - fire hydrant

  6. GV - gas valve

  7. GM - gas meter

  8. LP - light pole

  9. S - sanitary sewer manhole

  10. D - Storm water manhole

  11. T - telephone pedestal

  12. UC- utility cabinet

  13. UV - utility vault

  14. WSO - water shut off

  15. WM - water meter
